Gingivectomy Home Care Instructions

Today you had a gingivectomy, with a Diode Laser. The purpose of the gingivectomy was either in conjunction with your crown or filling, or it was a separate procedure. When performed with a crown or filling the laser removes inflamed or diseased tissue, caused by bacteria, and allows us to place the crown or filling in a clean healthy environment.

Your gum tissue may be sore for a day or two and as it heals, the tissue has a whitish/gray appearance. This is a scab and will disappear in a few days. Please take special care when brushing and flossing, use gentle pressure. A warm salt water rinse every 4 hours daily is recommended for the next 2 days, 1/2 tsp salt in 6-8 oz warm water.

You received local anesthetic today, please be careful until the numbness wears off and you have full feeling back in your mouth before chewing or drinking anything hot. You may have some discomfort at the injection site or in the muscle. For the next few days an over the counter pain reliever of your choice can be taken to help with the discomfort. The discomfort is usually temporary and can last for 3-7 days. If you experience prolonged numbness or discomfort, please call our office.

If you have any questions or need further instructions please call our office at 630-653-5152.

Thank you.
